1) Phone app

iOS (iPhone)

Download: Click here to download

Open the app and sign in with your Google account.

Turn on notifications for Google Chat.

Android

Download: Click here to download

Open the app and sign in with your Google account.

Turn on notifications for Google Chat.

2) Web browser

Open any browser (Chrome, Safari, or Edge).

Go to chat.google.com.

3) Inside Gmail

Open Gmail on your computer.

In the left sidebar (or bottom on mobile), click the Chat tab to view conversations and start new chats.

4) Notification settings

Google Chat is our primary channel for important updates, so notifications should stay ON. However, you don’t need to receive a notification for each message posted in the group chats. Follow the steps below to silence these notifications and only get notified when someone tags you.

Reduce group chat noise

Open Google Chat.

Hover over a Space name.

Click the three-dot menu.

Click Notifications.

Select For you.
